1st Chakra Colour Meditation

first chakraThe first Chakra is the one closest to the ground,  often referred to as the “root” chakra. The colour associated with it is deep red. When the energy is flowing in this chakra one feels “grounded”, certain of their right to be alive and a sense of physical potency.

Here is a short meditation (anywhere from about 5 minutes and up)  that can be useful in bolstering the flow of energy in this chakra

Colour meditation for root chakra

Sit upright in a comfortable chair, feet flat on the floor and hands open in your lap.

Close your eyes, breath in deeply, imagining your breath reaching every part of your body. As you breath in feel any tension melting away.

For the next 2 – 3 minutes breath in (and out of course – we don’t want you exploding with air!) on the inhale bring in the colour red, feel it infusing your body with its strength. On the exhale imagine stale energy leaving your body.

For the next few breaths, imagine a ball of red energy just a tiny bit forward from your tailbone, and as you breath in, sense the physical strength and stability in this area of your body becoming more real as the red shines more clearly. As you breath out sense your body releasing anxiety and muscle tension.

Spend a few breaths (maybe 2-3 minutes) sensing what is going on in your body and your mind. If any disrupting thoughts enter your mind, just let them go and refocus on sensing the energy. It is not uncommon to have to release thoughts several times in one meditation. For many of us (me included) the concious mind wants to think with words. Be patient 🙂
